Eventually, and much farther on than expected, the road dips between dry hills and splits, and you realise you have arrived, for a sign simply says 'cemetery'.
Thornborough was once the centre of a thriving goldfield called the Hodginson, which incorporated several locations scattered amongst the dry but picturesque hills. Several thousand people lived there, and it was one of the launching points for the Palmer goldfield, to the north.
Now there is virtually nothing there.
