Te Hapua (Mareitu)

Te Hapua is the most northern settlement in New Zealand. It is located on the norther edge of the Parengarenga Harbour, not far from North Cape, which incidently is NOT Cape Reinga where the tourists go. It is essentially a Maori community, and the cemetery holds the remains of very many important and influential persons. As with other Maori cemeteries, we do not provide a complete listing, but record names associated with the genealogies on this web page. Thus if a family member is interred there, we may record the fact, but do not provide any general listing. On our maps Maori cemeteries are shown in black/white/red colouring.
