 | SPANHAKE FILE |
This file is for the Spanhake family, drawn largely from material published by Mike Subritzky and Maria Beniston. Mike's 'The Subritzky Legend' describes the voyages from Hamburg to Nelson, New Zealand in the 'St. Pauli', while Maria's volumes on the 'Subritzky Family 1843 - 1993' covers almost every family in the Aupouri Peninsula. For a brief outline of the Spanhake family history an extract from Maria's Vol 2 is included here, written by John Turner, a grandson of Rowland Spanhake, with additional comments.
In addition, material has since been kindly provided by Tony Kirkbank in the UK, who sadly reports he believes he is the last of the Kirkbanks.
