Townsville has two quite large cemeteries. Both are under the pink granite mountain that overlooks the Strand, with the pioneer one on the southern side, and the later, more extensive one next to the airport, on the NW side. The pioneer one (Westend cemetery) was begun at about 1863, and there is an overlap time-wise with the larger one (Belgian Gardens), which generally started at about 1910.Due to the vast size of the newer one, and because the families interred are represented in both, this listing shows an alphabet based jump-list as well as the already available SURNAMES index. Again due to the size of both places, the project will be on-going, and updates will dribble in whenever one of us has enough time in Townsville to make additional recordings. Townsville is about 400 km north of Mackay, some 4 hours drive away.
