Tiaro

Tiaro is just south of Maryborough and shares a lot of heritage as immigrant ships from Europe came directly to the area in the 1870's. The Mary River gave access to the interior for mining and timber and supported a large population.

The nearby mining towns of Gympie and Kilkivan drew people from many other paerts of the country as well, and as a consequence dairying and farming became important industries. Nowadays dairying has largely died out but various forms of horticulture including vinyards are becoming more important, plus Maryborough draws a significant number of visitors on account of its pioneer background.
Not all headstones are included in this listing, for the cemetery is somewhat unkempt, especially in the far corners, but this is as much due to the swampy nature of the ground as to mismanagement. Many of the names listed here are derived from family histories rather than physical gravestones, and updating is an on-going task.
