Sapphire

Sapphire is one of the small townships west of Emerald, in Central Queensland, that lie in the gemfields. Here you too can scratch amongst the ancient river beds and find sapphires and other semi-precious stones.

The locality is merely a settlement rather than a township, and the cemetery is tucked off the main road, overgrown by tall, slender eucalypts that leave their leaf litter ankle deep over the damp square of ground that is the cemetery.
