Mt. Isa

Mt. Isa is a mining town near the western border of Queensland, and in the far north of Australia. It shares a real-time zone with Adelaide, in South Australia, although it actually ticks to Queensland's time, a half hour earlier. There is an unexpected beauty in the arid hills and abrupt green gorges of the area, but without the drab towers of the mining and smelting operation it would probably still be a sleepy cattletown.
The data given is scarcely pioneer material, but it includes a lot of Finnish family names, and all have been included for that reason in spite of dates. Not all interrments are listed, but all the early headstones are shown. As usual, there are probably errors, and we would appreciate hearing about them.

   Comments: Brother of Peter Gurner.Peter Gurner has emailed to explain that his brother was a Jackeroo (station worker) living and working on Alexandria Cattle Station in the Northern Territory and was apparently thrown from a horse which came home without him. He was unconscious when located, and was loaded onto mattresses on the back of a utility truck and taken to Mt. Isa Hospital over the atrocious roads of the time, but he never recovered consciousness.
