Manton (Woodstock)

Woodstock is on the road from Townsville to Charters Towers, about thirty kilometers out and just past the Giru turnoff. Manton is cheek-by-jowl with Woodstock, just to the south, and the two locations appear interchangeable to outsiders, although probably not to the inhabitants!
During WW2 the valley was transformed into a military airstrip and the present road happens to run down one of the ols runways as is perfectly plain from a Google picture. The cemetery itself is a small one hidden amongst the trees on the side of the road on the right as you head for Townsville. A short gravel road gives access to a surprisingly peaceful spot under shady trees.
