Kohukohu	Pos S 35°21'27.93 E 173°32'40.61

Kohukohu at one time shared importance with Rawene as one of the most important towns in northern New Zealand, situated on the north side of the Hokianga harbour, while Rawene is on the south shore. Today it is a sleepy collection of old houses huddled on the edge of a harbour inlet of the muddy waters of the Hokianga Harbour. The vehicular ferry that runs between Rawene and Kohukohu is several kilometers further on, but originally, before silting and sawmill operations changed the environment it had its own wharves capable of taking large sailing ships. The cemetery is located on steep hillside above the small settlement and barely visible through the trees and other growth. As you leave the main street to head towards the ferry the access road abruptly angles steeply on your right and perhaps a hundred meters up that road you will have to find somewhere to park...
