Eton

On the Peak Downs road westward from Mackay, the last small village before the escarpment is Eton. There is a pub, a school, a bridge, a church and a police station, and little else. The cemetery is hidden on the western side of the speed limited area, just before the irrigation channel. It is a large, weedy area with forlorn old headstones scattered in groups over what is now a small field. Clearly there have been no interments in recent decades, probably as the larger cemetery at nearby Walkerston came into use.
