Copperfield was a complete township located near Clermont, some 300 km west of Mackay, in Queensland. It developed as a processing center for the copper and gold ores mined from the nearby hills, and even today there remains the most recent smelter chimney, although virtually all evidence of a town is now gone.

The cemetery is located about 2 km past the chimney, on the road to Rubyvale, and is a pleasant, gladed reserve. Originally it was much larger, but in declaring it a Pioneer Cemetery the local shire has opted to fence and maintain only that portion of the grounds that retain some headstones. In the kept area is a brick memorial wall with all the names known. It is from that wall and from the remaining headstones that the following information is drawn from.
