| These records are complete except for the couple that are indecipherable. Banana is a truck stop on the Biloela-Moura highway inland from Rockhampton, nowadays a useful refuelling point before turning south along the inland road towards the NSW border, a day's drive away. In earlier days it was also a staging post for settlers travelling north along much the same route, plus it became a local focus for the settlers in the lower Dawson River Valley.
Nowadays the cemeteries at Moura and Biloela are used instead of this small one, but the names shown are of some of the very early settlers. It is only a few hundred meters from the main township intersection, a small brown square on a low ridge shared with residences and an old car dump. |  | |||||
| For those who wonder how Banana got its name, the following was offered by a local; 'There was an abbatoir in the area, and it was the practice to have a tame beast to lead the animals into the slaughtering pen as a 'Judas cow'. This particular cow was called Banana.' So now you know... | ||||||
