Toni and Greg McNeil have generously shared a family history, 'A Matter of Pride', written by Lesley M. Williams some years ago. From this the genealogy of the Hatfields has been reconstituted and added to where appropriate. The story of the family begins in England, then follows them through convict times through new diasporas to New Zealand and north Queensland.
In the course of these changes the genealogy is stitched into the FIRST FLEET files, to NZ files, and to north Queensland files based on Clermont and St. Lawrence. Hatfields are found in many of these places, living and resting quietly in country cemeteries.
In Mackay the family is still well known for the supermarket still owned and operated by the family today, in 2003, a very long span of time from the old convict days.
We salute Lesley Williams for the work and detail she has managed to work onto her tapestry. Persons wishing for additional information can contact us on the email address at the bottom of this page, or we can refer you to Toni.
Meanwhile, we make the usual caveats about accuracy and errors. If you wish to draw such to our attention, please quote the file and page so we can address the matter. We rely on YOU to correct errors and add material. It is meant to be a resource for you, and your family. Any of the source material and/or GEDcom files are available on request.
