Harry Lockley was the eldest son of William and Elizabeth Lockley. When he married Elizabeth Ferguson they moved to South Taranaki, where . He and his family lived for a long period on the Patiki Road farm (between Ti Kiri and Pihama) working as sharemilkers [The dairy industry in NZ often hires workers to manage their herds on a share-of-income basis].
Harry was of short stature and posessed a fiery temperament, and he held the reputation of being a good boxer. Very few photographs if any exist of him because of his reticence to pose for the camera.
Harry also worked with a contractor named McEwan, who with horse and wagon teams carted wood and river shingle.[Since dairying had a quiet season when the cows were 'dried off', a sharemilker often had to find other income]
One of the contracts Harry completed was the fencing of the Pihama Race Course (home of the Opunake Racing Club).
Because of his liking for the bush he bought a section of land under the nearby southern slopes of Mt, Egmont (now called Mt. Taranaki). He was also the owner of an early model-T Ford.
Although in later years he suffered from a heart condition this did not deter him from often riding his pony to the Patiki Road from his retirement home in Pihama, to the farm of his son-in-law Bob Campbell. He was usually accompanied by his dog as he completed odd farm jobs.
One day he would not allow his dog to follow him to the back of the farm, throwing stones at the animal to deter it. Later he was found there, where he had collapsed and died of a heart attack.
