Generally the roads are passable in a normal vehicle, as long as you can stand the corrugations, but side tracks are a different story, and my 2WD mine vehicle became bogged. The special long range fuel tank which was such a help for the long hauls was a problem in the sand, as it tended to sit on the raised sand between the tyre tracks.
