The Jardine River is not deep, the bottom is clearly visible, but there are truly crocodiles there, mostly unseen until night time when their eyes become visible in torchlight. In fact, every estuary in the Australian tropics has crocoldiles, and swimming is not a good idea. In the Wet, when there is a large amount of surface water, even amongst the trees, the crocs will leave the actual rivers and go hunting.
